Head Coach and Sensei, of TEXOMA Judo and Ju Jitsu, Roy Hash, is a certified Level II coach and a Gold Patron Life member of the United States Judo Association. He is also certified in CPR, Sports First Aid and by the American Coaching Effectiveness Program. He was awarded a Third Degree Black Belt (Sandan) in Judo in October 2000 and Ju Jitsu in February 1998. Roy began studying both these arts in 1966 and continued his study during service with the U.S. Army from 1973 until retirement in February 1999, after 26 years of active duty. Twenty-one of these years were served with the U.S. Army Special Forces, widely known as "The Green Berets." He began teaching self defense in 1979 at the United States Military Academy at West Point as an Unarmed Combatives Instructor. From 1979 on, he assisted, conducted and supervised numerous self-defense seminars for Law Enforcement agencies, U.S. and Allied military units. In 1982, he participated in Combatives Training as a student of the U.S. Army Ranger School at Fort Benning Georgia and in 1988 was designated a Master Instructor by the Fifth Special Forces Group (Airborne) where he conducted Combatives training for many of its individual members and "A" Teams until his retirement. In 1992, he joined the Clarksville Tennessee Judo Club as a student and Assistant Instructor from where he trained, competed and instructed at the local, state and regional level in Judo. He earned medals in the Tennessee and Kentucky State Championships every year from 1992 through 1998. In 1996, he was appointed Senior Instructor and Course Development Director for the Ethiopian Army Commando Combatives Course, and in July, 2001, he was nominated and accepted as a member of the USJA's National Coaching Symposium staff. In October 2001, he won the Gold Medal in the Master's Division of the Armed Forces National Championships. Carl Plummer, Shodan, one of the original eight (8) students of the Club, is the Assistant Club Coach. Carl was a nominee as the USJA Outstanding State of Texas Senior Competitor for 2000. In 1998, Carol Rice and Bradley Sanchez were named the USJA's Outstanding Junior and Senior Competitors for the State of Texas, respectively. James Copelin was named as Runner-Up to Mike Wentt for the Bronze Medalist in the 100kg Class at the 2001 National Armed Forces Championships. These four (4) are all vital members of the Texoma Judo and Ju Jitsu Club. |
